Maryborough’s fledgling musician Emma Newman, 16, is rapidly making a name for herself as a popular singer and songwriter at competitions, events, and venues across the Fraser Coast.

Modelling herself on her idol, American pop/rock singer and songwriter Demetria Lovato, Emma describes her style as “folk/pop with a bit of belting mixed in there.”

“I love Demi Lovato,” Emma said. “I like to say I’m her biggest fan! Locally, I really enjoy listening to the Rhubarb Tarts.”

The Aldridge State High School Year 11 student has already recorded two songs in recent years and racked up an impressive list of accolades at Fraser Coast Has Got Talent, Aldridge Has Got Talent, and Fraser Coast Talent Time.

She has also performed at several local events and venues including The Deck and Anchor Restaurant, Happy Days Diner, Smokey Joes, Brolga Riverstage, Brolga Live @ Bauple, The Vine, Live at the Bowlo, Relay for Life in Hervey Bay, and Sunset in the Park.

Born in Zanesville Ohio, USA, Emma has always dreamed of being a singer and has ambitions to be an international recording artist someday.

“At home we have videos of me singing and pretending to play guitar from 18 months old; I made everything into a song. But I really got serious about it at around 13,” she said.

"Music to me is very therapeutic, whether it’s writing my own songs or just listening to songs that make me feel alive."

“I especially love doing live gigs. I think just the kind response from the audience is the most rewarding part of performing live.”

“There are a high number of venues and events here on the Fraser Coast and everyone is so supportive of local artists.

"I’m so grateful for all the opportunities that have opened already for me.”

You can catch Emma Newman playing Brolga Live @ Glenwood on Friday 19 November, 2021 from 6pm - 9pm.
