Interactive and artistic journeys await at Creative Space

The exceptional talent of local artists Shanay Manitzky and Rolf Seiber will be showcased during two artist in residence at the Gatakers Creative Space in Maryborough.

Fraser Coast Regional Council arts spokesperson Michelle Govers said visitors could immerse themselves in a diverse range of artistic expressions, from an interactive photo booth to stunning flora and fauna paintings from the Fraser Coast region.

“From tomorrow (July 16), local artist Shanay Manitzky will be the Artist in Residence in the Creative Space at Gatakers Artspace,” she said.

Dear Diary will be an interactive and evolving journey into Shanay’s artistic processes, inviting community contributions through features like the ‘Photo Booth’ and ‘Wall of Secrets’.

“Shanay is inviting the community to be integral contributors during her residency, with their contributions ultimately displayed in her ‘Dear Diary’ exhibition at Gatakers in January 2026.”

As part of her residency, Shanay will also deliver ‘Dear Diary’ workshops on Saturday, July 20 from 9:30am –11:30am (18+ years) and 12:30pm–2:30pm (10 – 17 years). Click here to register for the workshops.

Cr Govers said from Friday July 26, Hervey Bay artist Rolf Sieber will have a pop-up exhibition at Gatakers Creative Space showcasing landscape and beach scenes using acrylic on canvas.

“The focus of ‘Creating Art is a never-ending journey’ is paintings that showcase the local flora and fauna of Hervey Bay and K’gari,” she said.

“Rolf is an award-winning artist and has successfully sold his artworks both locally and abroad.

“Visitors are invited to join Rolf at an artist talk and opening of his show on Saturday, August 3 at 11am.

“Rolf will be onsite creating new works between 10am and 1pm on 6, 8, 15, 17, 20 and 24 August.

“These events are all part of Council’s commitment to create connected communities through our places, spaces and people.”

Gatakers Artspace, which includes the Gallery Space and the Creative Space, is located at 311 Kent Street in Maryborough and is open 9.30am to 3.30pm Tuesdays to Fridays and 9.30am to 2pm weekends including public holidays.
