Brisbane Philharmonic Orchestra
Brisbane Philharmonic Orchestra presents a special and intimate evening of chamber music featuring two acclaimed Australian soloists – Emily Granger (harp) and Jonathan Henderson (flute)
Emily and Jonathan will be joined by members of the BPO to perform works by Mozart, Vaughan-Williams, Faure, Schoenberg, and more.
The concert will feature BPO's stunning new Lyon and Healy Salzedo concert harp, acquired specifically for this concert series with the generous assistance of the Australian Government's Restart Investment to Sustain and Expand (RISE) Fund.
Created in the Art Deco style characteristic of the 1920s, the Salzedo model concert harp is marked by precise linear carving and austere geometric decoration in the hard maple column and base.
The harp was handmade in the factories of world-renowned Lyon & Healy (Chicago USA), whose harps are found in concert halls round the world, from the New York Philharmonic to the Bolshoi Ballet, and are acclaimed for their remarkable depth and clarity of sound, breathtaking designs, and rich heritage of quality craftsmanship.
Granger says of the event:
“As a harpist and performer I’m incredibly passionate about promoting the instrument to audiences to showcase its capabilities. People often associate the harp as an ‘angelic’ and ‘beautiful’ instrument, which it is, but it’s also an incredibly diverse instrument and our program really demonstrates this. It’s wonderful to be taking the instrument out ‘on the road’ into more regional areas so people can hear and see the harp up close and personal”.
The music:
The program of music is diverse and designed to showcase the versatility of the harp in both classic and modern settings. The concert will also feature acclaimed flutist Jonathan Henderson – acting Principal Flute of the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra, Sydney, and several members of the Brisbane Philharmonic Orchestra.
