Hanging by a Thread - Mosaics for Afghan women
This display is the Queensland Mosaic Communities contribution to the Hanging by a Thread project.
The individual Mosaics were made by Queensland artists as part of the international project to support and highlight the plight of Afghan women and girls.
Each artist has made a small segment of glass mosaic, which is being joined together to create a series of giant scarfs.
The scarfs represent the resilience of Afghan culture beyond its own borders. They remind us how 20 years of hard-won freedoms can, in a matter of one year come to be hanging by a thread.
The Hanging by a Thread project is backed by the UN international year of glass (UNI-YOG22) and invovles over 1200 mosaic artists from 47 countries.
