Fraser Coast Australia Day Awards nominations open

Back

Now is the time to think about who you would like to thank for their tireless work in the community with nominations open for the 2023 Fraser Coast Australia Day Awards.

Mayor George Seymour said there were a range of Australia Day Award categories and nominating someone for an award was quick and easy.

“I can think of no better way of thanking the volunteers who work tirelessly in the many sporting clubs, community groups and service clubs than by nominating them for an Australia Day Award,” he said.

“Our current Fraser Coast Australia Day Citizen of the Year Bob Wicks is a classic example.

“Bob, and his wife Narelle have been a driving force of the Fraser Coast business and sporting community for more than 30 years.

“The couple have had a hands-on involvement in many sports and through their business helped the fundraising efforts of many groups to stage community events and build facilities across the region.

“While best known for their works in the Hervey Bay Surf Lifesaving Club and the Seagulls Rugby League Club, they have been involved in soccer, fishing and scuba diving.

“I urge members of the many community groups, sporting clubs and service organisation across the region to consider nominating someone you think has done an exceptional job, no matter their age, or how long they have lived on the Fraser Coast, for an Australia Day Award.

“A nomination is a great way to say thank you to someone you know who tirelessly serves our community or to celebrate a star in their chosen field.”
