Christmas Street Lights Up More Than Just Houses

In Kingfisher Drive, Maryborough, she’s known as the instigator – the driving force behind the street crowned Christmas Street last year. Three months out from the festive season, Maree Coslovi (left) is already marshalling her forces and dusting off the Christmas lights to put together her display for 2021. “I think I have at least 50 sets of lights and five blow-up yard decorations,” she said.

The job of installing the lights and decorations is spread over most of November. Then she sets to work marshalling the other residents of the street – which may not be all that hard. Last year every house in the street participated to some degree. Last year thousands of people visited the street on the outskirts of Maryborough.

Each year Council awards the Christmas Street title to participating streets in the Light Up the Fraser Coast Christmas Lights Trail. The winning street is presented with the ‘Christmas Street’ sign to be displayed under their street sign for the next year. 

Council will join in the festive fun and decorate giant Christmas trees in front of the Maryborough City Hall and beside the stage at the Seafront Oval on the Hervey Bay Esplanade.
